About Rick

Rick is involved in a number of different areas at City Light. He co-teaches The Master’s Men, leads a small group, oversees outreach ministries, and leads the elder team. He grew up in Santa Clara and attended local schools.  He met his wife Carrie on a blind date (think old-school internet dating) while she was in nursing school and he was pursuing a business degree. When they both had their diploma in hand, they were married.  Rick and Carrie have two daughters—one is married and works as a nurse, and the other is a children’s director at a church.  Both live in the Bay Area.

While Carrie is an oncology nurse in Santa Clara, Rick is the director of Borderless, a ministry of Africa Inland Mission. Together, they were missionaries in Kenya for 18 years. While there, they served in various capacities including leading an all-boys high school, church planting among the Samburu people, and a variety of leadership roles.

When Rick is not traveling for work or preparing a lesson, you will find him working in his wood shop where he enjoys building things for his family.
